Adam Gherkin, is a curious European cornucopia, small framed plant, that yields easy, heavy, and abundant thin skinned pickler cucumbers. Fruits are blanketed with small bumpy spines on a thin skin. Highly unique small fruit, and maintains a full radial shape with minimal tapering. Adam Gherkin is cute, full of flavor, bright sweet fragrance, reminiscent of petrichor. I’d classify the plant structure as a bush cucumber, with vines that do not stretch as a single leader but tentacles out with precocious and prolific tendrils laden with flowers late spring until summer becomes unbearably hot. Adam Gherkin is best sown early, and fizzles out, because it seems to fruit itself to death. But that heat of the summer is where other pickling and slicing varieties with larger frames shine, because Gherkin yields well when dill may be in season. Grows fast, and the uniform and snappy texture tastes great. Providing a bumper crop basket of delicate picklers, with an interesting name, and mysterious story.
